- The aim of the rebellion was simply to remove William II from the English throne. The rebels, if successful intended to put the king's cousin Stephen of Auamle on the throne instead
- The 1088 rebellion was a wide scale rebellion through England conducted by supporter of Robert Curthose, William I eldest son and the Duke of Normandy
- 6 out of 10 of the most important barons in England were supportive of the rebellion
- These members created a Rebel court that decided they should attempt large scale plunder. In 1088 they also tried to increase their support over lent
- As figurehead of the rebellion, William arrested Odo to try and prevent any hostilities from breaking out
