  • Statistical Infrequency
    • A person's trait, thinking or behaviour is classed as abnormal if it is rare, unusual or statistically infrequent.
    • Strengths
      • Reall life application in the diagnosis of intellectual disability disorder.
    • Limitations
      • Doesn’t take into account whether a behaviour is desirable or undesirable
      • Giving someone a label ‘abnormal’ may not benefit them, it may simply add to their problems.
    • The majority of people are in the normal distribution.
    • In terms of IQ, an IQ of 45 is classed as statistically abnormal.
