  • PHYSICS IGCSE - FORCES AND MOTION
    • SPEED
    • FORCES
      • WEIGHT=force that acts on the body because of gravity.
      • FORCES ARE MEASURED IN NEWTONS.
    • FORCE, MASS & ACCELERATION
  • Average speed = distance/time
    • SPEED
  • speed and distance are scalar because they don't take direction into account.
    • Average speed = distance/time
    • ACCELERATION

        • FORCE, MASS & ACCELERATION
      • Acceleration = change in velocity/time take
        • Units = m/s (squared)
    • VELOCITY -TIME GRAPHS
      • Gradient =acceleration
        • VELOCITY -TIME GRAPHS
        • Straight lines = constant acceleration
          • FRICTION= force that opposes motion.
            • AIR RESISTANCE  = friction between object and air it is moving through.
              • UPTHRUST = upward force that liquids and gasses exert on objects.
                • ELECTROSTATIC  = the force between electrically charged objects.
                  • NORMAL REACTION = special name for an object pushing down on another object.
                    • TENSION = in strings/cables/ ropes that are being stretched.
                      • Force = mass x aceleration
                        • Thinking distance = distance before applying breaks
                          • Breaking distance = distance travelled whilst car is decelerating to stop.
                          • Breaking distance = distance travelled whilst car is decelerating to stop.
                            • Aprox. gravity = 10m/s(squared)
                              • Weight = mass x gravitational field strength
                                • MOMENTUM
                                  • Momentum = mass x velocity
                                  • moment = force x perpendicular distance from pivot.
                                • Measured in Kg m/s
                                  • MOMENTUM
                                    • Momentum = mass x velocity
                                    • moment = force x perpendicular distance from pivot.
                                • Force = change in momentum/time taken
                                  • F =ma
                                • For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
                                  • The rate of change of momentum of a body is proportional to the force acting on it.
                                    • unless there is a force acting on an object, it will continue to move in a straight line at constant speed or remain at rest.
