      • 1879-Dual Alliance between Germany  and Austria Hungary.
        • 1882-Italy joins the Dual Alliance to form the Triple Alliance.
      • 1904-Entente Cordial between Britain and France.
        • 1907-Russia joins the Entente Cordial to form the Tripe Entente.
    • Arms Race
      • Germany and Britain competing for the best Navy and Army.
      • Navy
        • 1906-Briain built the first Dreadnought.
          • 1907-Germany built a similar battleship.
            • 1914-Germany had 17 battleships and Britain had 29.
      • Army
        • 1914-Britain had 700 000 men and Germany had 2 000 000 men.
        • Britain had the BEF(British Expeditionary Force) of 150 000 men ready  travel out immediately in case of war.
    • 1905-Moroccan Crisis
      • Morocco was uncolonised.
        • France wanted Morccco for its empire.
          • Germany objected and demanded an international conference.
            • 1906-Algeciras conference.
              • Germany forced to back down as France had support from Britain, Italy, Russia and Spain.
                • France took control of Morocco's police and banks.
    • 1911- Agadir Crisis
      • France sent troops to fez to fight Moroccan rebels.
        • Germany accused Franc of taking complete control over Morocco
          • Germany sent a gunboat(the Panther) to Agadir, hoping to force France into giving tem the French Congo.
            • Britain worried Germany would build a naval base at Agadir so also sent warships.
              • Germany backed down.
    • The Kaiser
      • He wanted his place in the sun.
    • Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
      • Black hand gang, Gavrillo Princip.
        • Atempted but failed suicide.
      • Himself and pregnant wife shot.
    • Schlieffen Plan
      • Germany go through Belgium to surprise attack France.
        • Russia attack Germany.
          • Treaty of London, Britain declares war on Germany.
            • 4th August 1914
