- persuaded his duty to stay on--Mcdonald went to resign when visiting the King but he said that he could continue to be prime minister at head of a new nation government based on support from all the main political parties - Temp arrangement
- Labour cabinet taken by complete surprise people chose to follow him but some didn't - Labour was out but he wasn't . Many accused him of abandoning the Labour party and only thinking of himself
