- MIGRATION: IMMIGRATION & EMIGRATION
- MIGRATION
- the size & composition of the UK is influenced my migration
- migration occurs because of 'pull' & 'push' factors
- pull = factors that may attract a person to a new country e.g. education, jobs etc.
- push = factors that may encourage someone to leave their home country e.g. war, poverty, lack of employment etc.
- STATISTICS ON MIGRATION
- 1961-1981 = 25,000
- 1981-2001 = 70,000
- 2001-2011 = 199,000
- GLOBALISATION (how its affected UK)
- the growing interconnectedness of societies across the world
- more immigration from the EU - means uk has more choice of food & products, less jobs, more family diversity
- more undocumented workers- 500,000 - 800,000
- greater cultural diversity- hybrid families, people more aware of different cultures
- changing families- extended, LATs etc.
