- He is presented as a strong ruler

- He is introduced in the play as a warrior hero, whose fame on the battlefield wins him great honour from the king.
- The prophecies of the witches have a powerful effect on him.
- After one of the witches predictions comes true it drives him to agree to his wife's plans.
- He has halluc-inations right before killing Duncan and sees ghosts after.
