    • About
      • Dubai is a tiny state and one of the United Arab Emirates, Located on the Arabian Gulf coast neighbouring Saudi Arabia.
    • Tourism in Dubai is rapidly growing as it is easily accessible from Europe, Asia and Africa. 120 different airlines fly directly to Dubai.
    • Hotel revenue was up by 22% in the first quarter of 2008 compared with the same period the previous year.
    • Hotel and apartment bed nights increase by 2% - 3% annually.
    • In 2000, 2.8 million visited which grew to 4.9 million in 2003 and 5.4 million by 2004.
    • It is predicted that visitor numbers will increase rapidly and become one of the most popular tourist destinations worldwide.
    • The state is famous for duty-free shopping malls, huge department stores and markets.
    • Emirates airlines whihc is based in Dubai carries millions of long haul passengers to hundreds of different destinations worldwide.
    • Sightseeing is popular with places like the markets, the zoo, the Dhow (traditional boats) and the building yards being a big hit.
    • Water sports such as diving are becoming increasingly popular.
    • Tourists can also experience the unique landscape with excursion trips from the city to view the desert and its wildlife.
    • Visits to the wetland mudflats are ideal for bird watchers as they contain more than 400 different bird species.
  • How important is tourism worldwide
    • France was crowned the most popular country in the world with a record breaking number of 84.7 million tourists in 2014.
      • Between 2010 and 2014 France earned US$63,530,000,000 solely due to tourism.
    • The US is the second most popular tourist destination receiving 69.8 million visitors in 2013 and earing $200,092,000,000 from 2010 to 2014.
    • Surprisingly both Russia and Thailand have had a surge in tourism with Russia receiving a 10.2% rise in 2012 and and Thailand seeing a 18.8% rise in 2012.
    • In 2012, Chinese tourists spent the most abroad reaching a total of $102bn, followed by Germany who spent $83.8bn
    • For 83% of countries, tourism is one of the top 5 sources of  foreign exchange
    • Tourism is beneficial to countries in all stages of development.
