  • Forces and motion
    • Force, mass and acceleration
      • If the forces acting on an object are balanced, it's at rest or at a constant speed.
        • If the forces acting on an object are unbalanced, it's speeding up or slowing down
      • force = mass x acceleration
      • The unit of force is the newton (N)
    • Car safety
      • Reaction time and thinking distance may increase if the driver is tired, under the influence of drugs or alcohol, travelling faster or is distracted/lacking concentration
      • Braking distance may increase if the road conditions are poor (icy), the car hasn't been maintained properly and the speed is increased
      • For safe driving, you should be able to stop safely by keeping a good distance from the car in front and have a diff speed limit for diff types of road and locations as well as slowing down in poor road conditions
      • There are many factors that affect braking distance, the greater the mass the greater the braking distance, the greater the speed the greater the braking distance, worn brakes increase braking distance and worn tyres increase braking distance.
