    • Euthanasia
      • Sometimes called 'mercy killing'
        • Despite the good motive, it is still killing

      • When someone is helped to die without pain before they would have naturally died

      • Christians believe only God choses when life should end
        • Would be a sin

      • 'Passive Euthanasia' when patient requests the treatment to be stopped
      • 'Active Euthanasia' deliberate action is taken to end a life
    • Suicide
      • Deliberately ending one's own life.

      • Sometimes called 'self-murder'
      • RC believe its a sin that would exclude someone from heaven
        • "Suicide is seriously contrary to justice, hope, and charity. It is forbidden by the fifth commandment." CCC
      • Most Christians think it's morally wrong
        • People have a better understanding of the reasons eg depression
      • Organisation called "The Samaritans" set up in 1953 by Rev. Chad Varah
        • Provide 24 hour telephone counselling for people who feel suicidal
          • "Befriend the suicidal and despairing"
