  • Enzymes
    • A protein tht functions as a biological catalyst
      • catalyst is something that speeds up a reaction
    • active site- the location where the substrate fits into the enzyme to react
    • Factors that affect enzymes
      • temperatures
        • too low= work slowly          too high = denatured
          • If the enzymes are expose to high temperatures mostly above 50, the shape of the active site changes and the substrate won't fit in, the enzyme is said to become denatures
      • pH
        • most enzymes work at PH7, pepsin works at pH 2
          • If the PH is low, then the enzyme stops working and starts back when the pH is back to normal
