      • Jekyll turns into Hyde after satifised by "active goodwill" and then he transforms into Hyde when congratulating self on his virtues
      • Jekyll sees Hyde as "inorganic" and not part of him

      • Jekyll's dinner party is with "intelligent, respectable" upper-class men. all also "judges of good wine"
      • Chapter 6- time passes as if Hyde "never existed" holds dinner parties also
      • At a young age "fond of the respect"
    • Ambitious
      • Dr Lanyon didn't agree with his work as he was a traditional scientist.
        • He called it "unscientific balderdash"
          • "balderdash" means nonsense.
        • he called it "too fanciful
          • fanciful means unrealistic
        • Victorian era not common for gossiping as it was frowned upon.
        • Lanyon said ""would have estranged Damon and Pythias"
          • Damon and Pythias were used as examples of good friends

        • However Jekyll does diagree with him and gossips about him too
          • "a high bound pendant" "ignorant, blatant pendant"
            • Pendant is someone particular on facts.
            • High bound means restricted on views. Shows Hyde is always on his mind even when relaxing with friends. sounds like hyde-bound
      • C9 "temptation of a discovery" was tpp much to resist

      • Chapter 3 strange situation "cannot be mended by talking" also says "great intrest" in Hyde.
        • Jekyll gives no more detail so gives suspense.
      • When talking about his will uses phrases "if i am taken away" and " when i am no longer here"
        • Uses ambiguous language to reassure Utterson.
      • Utterson cannot get info out of him after Carew murder
        • "cannot share with anyone" doesn't share
      • Jekyll writes Utterson must "suffer me to go my own dark way" in the letter c6 shows repression
