    • proteins help growth , cell repair and cell replacement
    • fats keep you warm and release energy
    • carbohydrates release energy
    • vitamins and mineral ions help to keep your skin, bones and blood healthy
    • fibre keeps things moving smoothly through your digestive system
    • Energy is needed to fuel chemical reactions
      • these reactions are called your metabolism and the speed in which they occur is called your metabolic rate
        • muscle needs more energy than fatty tissue meaning people with a higher proportion of muscle to fat will have a higher metabolic rate
    • when you exercise more energy is needed therefore your metabolic rate increases
    • saturated fat can raise your cholesterol
    • too much salt can lead to health problems such as high blood preassure
