- DYSURIA= pain or burning sensation when urinating
- caused by urine coming in contact with inflamed mucosa - releasing nociceptors and stimulating pain
- HAEMATURIA= Blood in the urine
- Caused by bacteria infecting the lining of the urinary tract which leads to inflammation and irritation causing red blood cells to leak into the urine
- FEVER
- Caused by the bacteria raising the hypothalamic temperature set point, triggering vasoconstriction and shivering which increased heat production within the body
- SUPRAPUBIC PAIN/TENDERNESS OR FLANK PAIN
- caused by distention of the ureter due to the inflammatory response
- NEW URGENCY AND FREQUENCY TO URINATE
- caused by reduced bladder capacity due to inflammation
- CONFUSIONOR DELIRIUM
- this is more common in the elderly however the reason for this is still unknown, but is thought to be due to the additional stress on the body
- CLOUDY LOOKING URINE
- often due to discharge of pus or blood, can also be release of built up white blood cells
- NOCTURIA= passing urine more frequently at night
- caused by reduced bladder capacity due to inflammation
- DYSURIA= pain or burning sensation when urinating
