  • Changes to living/working conditions of urban people
    • Urban housing (Tsars)
      • By 20th century - 15% in towns/cities
      • Only 19 cities had more than 100,000 inhabitants
      • 1000 towns, wood - so fire prone. 74 - electricity. 35 - gas.
      • Cheap housing - overcrowding& cholera (100k dead 1910)
      • 1911, sewers better. Bad transport - housing onsite, slept in workshop
      • Health  (bad drainage, sanitation, supplies)
    • Urban housing (Comms)
      • Decree on peace - dwellings in towns & cities. Private owners to proletariat
        • Short lived improvement
      • Stalin - overcrowding1930's
        • Moscow 25% 1 room/2 households
      • 5% bathroom or hallway, policy = space not rooms
