- Cultural differences in conformity can be explained by differences in LOC.
- Found that Japanese people conform more easily than Americans and also have a more external LOC.
Interviewed two groups of non-Jewish people who had lived through the Holocaust.
- Oliner & Oliner (1988)
  - They compared 406 people who had protected and rescued Jews from those with 126 who did not.
  - Rescuers had scored an internal LOC suggesting a link with social influence.
Found that people have become more resistant to obedience and also more external in their LOC over time.
