- What is it?
- when the heart stops pumping blood around the body and stops a person from breathing properly
- NOT THE SAME AS A HEART ATTACK (this is when one of the arteries supplying blood to the heart muscle becomes blocked)
- Symptoms
- lose consciousness almost at much
- no signs of life
- unresponsive
- Causes
- a heart attack
- extreme blood loss
- coronary heart disease
- extreme body temperature
- Treatment
- defibrillation (needs to happen as soon as possible)
- CPR can double someones chance of survival before defibrillation
- Impacts on the patient

- may weaken a person

- after recovering from cardiac arrest a person might lack concentration
- will become more educated about cardiac arrest

- may become dependent on friends/family being around to help
- may not be interested in social events
