- 'dwarf'
- derogatory term, shocks us
- assisi - stanza one
- 'three tiers of churches built / in honour of St Francis'
- contrast between the beggar, a massive church and the honour of a man who would've preferred the money go to the poor
- 'brother / of the poor, talker with the birds'
- shows that there is a complete disconnect between the church and St Francis
- St Francis was one with nature
- he isn't getting honoured through the beliefs that he lived with - helping the people who needed help and not by building a massive building
- 'he had the advantage / of not being dead yet'
- tells us that the only thing the beggar has in his favour is that he is still alive
- but implies that it might be better for the dwarf if he was dead
- 'yet' has a sinister effect - suggests that the beggar will be dead soon
- 'three tiers of churches built / in honour of St Francis'
