    • Purpose is to conserve and enhance a landscape's natural beauty
    • Usually lowland or hilly areas
    • More intensively used than National Parks for farming, residence and industry
    • Public access is NOT an aim
    • Less restrictive planning regulations than National Parks
      • Housing developments permitted for local needs
      • Expansion of local industry allowed - no new industry development
    • Examples = Cotswolds, Scilly Isles, North Pennies
