  • 5.3 - Just war
    • A war that meets certain criteria which makes it justifiable
    • Jus ad bellum = whether it is right to go to war
      • Must be started by proper authority
      • The reason to go to war must be just
      • Everything must be done to make sure good instead of evil results from the war
      • The war must be the last resort
      • The force used must be no more than is necessary to win. People not posing as a threat should not be targeted
    • Jus in bello = the actions taken within a war
    • Jus post bellum = the actions taken after the war
    • C's b that war can't be easily justified
      • Usually feel it should be avoided
      • B teaches the need to aim for peace and maintain justice
    • All churches b that the global community should do everything to coexist peacefully
    • RCCs and Anglicans agree that war is regretful
    • C's b they have a responsibility to pray for everyone involved in any war
