- TAWHID- oneness of Allah. He is unique and without partners
- "Worship and shun false gods." (Qur'an, Surah 16: 35- 36)
- Shirk- associating partners with Allah. Biggest sin of Islam.

- IMMANENCE AND TRANSCENDENCE- Allah is the creator of everything and much of his creation is beyond human understanding
- "We created man- We know that his soul whispers to him: We are closer to him than his jugular vein" (Qur'an, Surah 50: 16)
- This quote shows how close Allah is to every person.
- "Exalted be God" (Qur'an, Surah 7:54)- Shows he is high up (transcendent)

- OMNIPOTENCE
- "He has power over all things." (Qur'an, Surah 2:107- 109)
- BENEFICENCE
- "Your Lord's bounty is not restricted." (Qur'an, Surah 17: 20)
- MERCY
- Each chapter in the Surah apart from one, starts "In the name of God, the Lord of mercy, the giver of mercy."
- Both Sunni and Shi'a Muslims believe that Allah is just, and for Shia Muslims it is one of the five roots.
- This aspect of Allah's nature teaches Muslims that they will be held accountable for what they have and haven't done by Allah.
