Drainage Basin
An area of outside land that is drained by a river and it's tributaries. The land forms a natural dividing line between drainage basins and watersheds.
1 of 6
Tributary
A stream or river which flows into a mainstream river, and does not flow directly into the sea.
2 of 6
Confluence
Is the meeting of 2 or more bodies of water. It usually refers to the point where a tributary joins a more major river called the mainstream.
3 of 6
Watershed
This line separates drainage basins. It runs along a geographical barrier between drainage basins such as a hill or mountain.
4 of 6
Hard Engineering
The process of controlled disruption of natural processes, by the intervention of, and the use of, man-made techniques. It is very expensive and damages the natural environment.
5 of 6
Soft Engineering
The process of managing the natural environment without enforcing large or damaging man-made structures. Soft engineering options are less expensive, short term and have less impact on the environment.
