  • Global Hydrolical Cycle
    • Explains the distribution of water as it moves as either a liquid solid or gas between the ocean, the atmosphere and the land
    • Total amount of water in the cycle is always the same as no water is added or lost
    • This is an example of a closed system
    • Ten components
      • Evaporation - when water is heated by the sun and rises into the sky as water vapour
      • Condensation - when water vapour is cooled and turns into water droplets to form clouds
      • Precipitation - all water released from clouds such as rain, hail, sleet and snow
      • Interception - when trees or man made objects get in the way of rain reaching the ground surface
      • Infiltration - when water soaks into the soil
      • Percolation - the downward movement of water from the soil into rock
      • Surface run off - water flowing across the surface of the land, whether in a channel or over the land
      • Through flow - when water travels through the soil towards a river or the sea
      • Transpiration - when moisture from plants and leaves is lost to the atmosphere
      • Ground water flow - the movement of water through rocks
