TEM
Transmission Electron Microscope: Uses electromagnets to focus a beam of electrons. Denser parts absorb more electrons & therefor look darker. High resolution image.
1 of 13
SEM
Scanning Electron Microscope: Reflected electrons are gathered in a cathode ray tube, shown on TV image. Show surface of specimen and can be 3D.
2 of 13
Prokaryotes
Bacteria & Blue-green algae.
3 of 13
Eukaryoes
Animal and Plant cells.
4 of 13
Cell Wall
Supports plant cells: rigid structure surrounds plant cells - made up of cellulose.
5 of 13
Lysosome
Round oranelle surrounded by membrane. Contains digestive enzymes.
6 of 13
Ribosome
V.Small organelle. Site where proteins are made.
7 of 13
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Transports lipids around the cell
8 of 13
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Transports proteins which have been made in the ribosomes.
9 of 13
Golgi Apparatus
Group of smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum. Vesicles often seen @ edges. it packages substances that are produced by the cell. Mainly proteins & glycoproteins. Also makes lysosomes
10 of 13
Vesicle
Small fluid-filled sac in cytoplasm, Transports substances toand from cll via plasma membrane.
11 of 13
Mitochondrion
Normally oval. Double membrane. Inner one is folded to form cristae. Inside is matrix - contains enzyme involved in respiration. ATP produced.
12 of 13
Chloroplast
Small flattened structure found in plant cells. Double membrane & thylakoid membrane inside. Stacked up to form grana - linked together by lamellae. Photosynthesis takes place.
