Public Bills
Proposed changes to the law that will affect the public in general.

Government Bills
Public bills that have been put forward by the government to be considered by Parliament.

Private Bills
These are bills that are put forward by organisations. Private Bills only change the law as it applies to specific individuals or organisations, rather than the general public.

Private Members' Bills
These bills are introduced by by individual MPs or peers in the House of Lords who are not a part of the Cabinet. These bills are usually unsuccessful but can produce important legislation, e.g. The Abortion Act 1967.

Hybrid Bills
Hybrid bills have the characteristics of both a private and public bill. The changes to the law proposed by a hybrid bill would affect the general public but would also have a significant impact for specific individuals or groups
