Define + Explain Mutation
Change in DNA base sequence because of errors in DNA replication, this therefore change the amino acid sequence in polypeptide so, a different 3D structure of the protein is formed therefore, it won't function properly (e.g.enzyme active site change)
1 of 5
What increases the rate of mutation and give examples
Mutagenic agents increase the rate of mutation- 1. UV 2. Ionising radiation 3. Chemicals 4. Some viruses
2 of 5
Explain the ways mutagenic agents can increase the rate of mutation.
.
3 of 5
What can mutations cause?
1. Herrditary mutations can cause genetic disorders due to inheriting abnormal genes/chromosomes. 1. Mutations can also increase the chance of cancer
4 of 5
Explain what hereditary mutations are
Gametes with mutations are fertilised so the mutations is passed on to offspring.
