What is thermal expansion?
when a solid, liquid is heated the particles vibrate. therefore taking up more room as there are bigger spaces between the particles. This causes the solid to expand.

Give an example of thermal expansion...
A bimetallic ***** bends when heated because the 2 different metals have a different rate of expansion. The faster metal will expand faster.

What is the main solid that is used thermal expansion?
metal eg, brass

give an example of liquid expansion...
a conical flask with a bung and tube, when the coloured water is heated it causes the particles to move more, therefore taking up more space. The liquid would go up the tube!

what resources could give us heat for thermal expansion?
a Bunsen burner, fire, radiator.
