What is a wage?
Paid for time working eg hourly, helps raise productivity

When workers are given the scope to carry out a variety of tasks, can be encourages by the use of job rotation

Workers carry out an increased number of tasks at the same level of difficulty

Finding another business to carry out part of the production process to cut costs or achieve a better level of service

Outsourcing, part time, temporary staff, zero hours contracts, multiskilling etc

What are the advantages of flexible work for the employer?
Staff are there when needed, lowers costs, more motivation for worker = higher productivity

Outsourcing could be seen as unethical, no set time, lose benefit of specialisation

Not morning for the employee, homeworking = no travelling, easier to fit into lifestyle

Some may want full time, could get taken advantage of, no job security

Changes in circumstance of technology making your job irrelevant, its about the job there are also legal requirements

Gross or related misconduct, its about the individual

What is a trade union?
An organisation of workers that promotes and protects the interests of its members is issues such as wages and working conditions, especially through negotiations with employers. They are very powerful and can threaten strike action.

An employee who works under 30 hours per week

An employee who works over 30 hours per week

An employee who has no specific end date to their contract
