Particle Theory
The particle theory states that all matter is made of very tiny pieces or particles. These particles can be single atoms, molecules or ions. The particles are arranged differently in different states- that's why these states have different properties
1 of 11
The Particle Arrangement in Solids
Particles are very close together and the arrangement is regular
2 of 11
The Particle Arrangement in Liquids
Particles are close together and the arrangement is irregular
3 of 11
The Particle Arrangement in Gases
Particles are far apart and the arrangement is random
4 of 11
The Forces Between The Particles Of Solids, Liquids And Gases
Solids have a strong force, liquids have a less stronger force and gases have a very weak force
5 of 11
The Particles In A Solid Can...
Vibrate to and fro, but not move apart- that is why they have a fixed shape
6 of 11
The Particles In A Liquid Can...
Move around, and slide past each other- that is why a liquid can be poured
7 of 11
The Particles In A Gas Can...
Move freely, collide with each other and bounce away again- that is why a gas spreads
8 of 11
When You Apply Pressure On Solids...
The particles can't move closer, so the volume does not change
9 of 11
When You Apply Pressure On Liquids...
The particles can't move closer, so the volume does not change
10 of 11
When You Apply Pressure On Gases...
The particles can move a lot closer, so the gas can be pushed into a much smaller volume
