The inter hospital transfer of critically ill patients

What happens during a transfer?
A patient is taken from one hospital to another via a road ambulance or air ambulance. Drugs such as the sedative propafol are used to keep the patient stable during a transfer.

What was my method for the project?
Clinical - To gain familiarity with equipment and monitors being used - Research of common reasons for necessitating transfer and Observing how the transfers took place to understand the process.

Data input - Data from transfer forms from the peninsula critical care network was entered into an access database involving all conditions and monitoring throughout the transfer.

Where there any difficulties during the bursary?
There were to major problems I came across: 1. When translating fors it was difficult due to the doctors handwriting. (Like hieroglyphics) 2. In conclusion to my outcomes only 39/5% of all transfer forms were completed.

Potential ways of improvement
Dictaphone. Electronic form filling via a touch screen pad or similiar. Voice recognition forms.
