Explain what our eyes really see
reversed and flipped image - blurry apart from centre - brain flips and fixes image
1 of 9
Why?
It takes a lot of energy to have a HD image, the energy needed would be enormous- also the blind spot would be very very large
2 of 9
What are the other energy limitations?
our eyes only transmit important stuff like changes and edges - however this makes us poor at detecting slow changes and means surrounding context can differ what we see
3 of 9
explain the colour after effect
colour neutrons exist for red blue and green. when looking at that colour, it excited the neutrons, however over time this inhibits the neutron and after the colour is gone, the inhibition of that colour is still there and that colour -vision
4 of 9
explain the simultaneous contrast effect
every neutron has a special inhibitor - when corresponding colour neutrons are active it turns itself down - therefore, only neutrons on the edge of the colour will encode strongly - meaning the colour is partially removed from other neurons but thes
5 of 9
What is the fovea?
part of the retina - only photoreceptors connected to the brain - only HD photoreceptors
6 of 9
How do individual PR create an image?
All see a different little part of an image, the brain puzzles all the pieces together to create
7 of 9
Where does this visual info travel to ?
It goes from the PR to the bipolar cells, then to the retinal ganglion cells - this then outputs the visual info to the optic chaiam, left and right sides oppositely
8 of 9
describe the structure of the LGN
Right side of vision goes to left LGN, left side to right- 6 layers per side/for each eye- layers1+2= larger- magnocellular and deal with movement - 3-6= parvocellular and deal with colour
