What is swash and backwash?
Swash is the movement of a wave up a beach and backwash is the backward movement of water down a beach when the wave has broken.
3 of 7
What is fetch?
Fetch is the length of water which the wind has blown over. This effects the power and size of the wave.
4 of 7
What is the wavelength and wave height?
Wave length is the horizontal distance between two wave crests or troughs. Wave height is the vertical distance between the crest and trough of the wave.
5 of 7
Destructive waves characteristics?
Large wave height and more frequent. Weak swash moves little sediment up the beach. Strong backwash carries away lot of sediment. Steep beach profile
6 of 7
Constructive waves characteristics?
Small wave height and less frequent. Strong swash moves sediment up the beach.Weak backwash carries away little sediment. Gentler beach profile.
