What does the Operating System do?
The operating system provides a user interface, management of memory, peripheral management, memory tasking and security.

Firewalls are used to prevent information entering and leaving a computer on a network.

A defragmentation utility program will organise chunks of programs/files so that they are next to each other or as close to each other as possible on the storage device.
