SERIAL POSITION EFFECT
- It is the pattern of results
- (Concluding that..) Free recall is better for items at the BEGINNING and END of the list than for items in the MIDDLE of the list
- Supports the Multi-Store Model for Memory: STM and LTM are SEPARATE storage systems

DEFINITION: PRIMACY EFFECT
- Is BETTER recall of items at the BEGINNING of the list.
- OCCURS: items have been rehearsed and TRANSFERRED to LTM (For STORAGE)

DEFINITION: RECENCY EFFECT
- is BETTER recall of items at the END of the list.
- OCCURS: items are still being rehearsed in STM when the person is asked to free recall.

WHY ARE WORDS FORGOTTEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LIST?
- MIDDLE: Often unconsciously ignored since items at the beginning of the list are being rehearsed and transferred to LTM
- Not enough CAPACITY in STM to include the middle terms (Therefore are either: LOST or FORGOTTEN)
- ALSO: last few items are recalle
