What is meant by the term pathogen?
An organism that causes disease
1 of 10
What do all living organisms have in common?
Movement, Respire, Respond, Nutrition, Excrete, Reproduce, Control iInternal Conditons and Grow
2 of 10
What are the features of a plant?
Multicellular, have chloroplasts so can photosynthesise, have cell walls made of cellulose, store carbohydrates as sucrose or starch
3 of 10
What are the features of animals?
Do not have cell walls, have a nervous system, usually move around, store carbohydrates in a form of glycogen, do not have chloroplasts, multicellular
4 of 10
What are the features of fungi?
Have a body called mycelium which is made up of hyphae, cannot photosynthesise, cell walls made of chitin, single cell, feed by sapotrophic nutrition, store carbohydrate is glycogen
5 of 10
What is sapotropic nutrition?
They secrete extracellular enzymes into the area outside their body to dissolve their food so they can then absorb the nutrients
6 of 10
What are the characteristics of protoctists
Like animal cells, have a chloroplasts, singles celled and microscopic
7 of 10
What are the characteristics of bacteria?
Do not have a nucleus, have a circular chromosome of DNA, can photosynthesise, single cell, feed off other organisms
8 of 10
What are the features of viruses?
Particles rather than cells, smaller than bacteria, only reproduce inside living cells, in effect all types of organisms, come in all different shapes and sizes, do not have a cellular structure, have a protein coat around some genetic material
9 of 10
Examples of organisms
Cereals, mammals, yeast, chlorella, lactobacillus, influenza virus
