Human right

The stated aim of the United Nations to bring peace after WW2. The US president drafted a declaration of the rights that everyone in the world should have.

United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 1990
194 countries have signed up which places duty on the government to protect the rights affecting children e.g. right to a name, identity and freedom from exploitation

Human Rights Act 1998
Incorporation of the Human Rights Convention into British Law. Meant that UK citizens could bring cases to British court rather than having to go the Stratsbourg

Welfare Rights
In the 20th century an expectation developed that certain services and benefits are provided for everyone e.g. healthcare , education and pensions

Have become subject to change in law in the 20th and 21st century such as equal opportunities (pay act)

Helps to resolve international trade disputes

Allows police force in one country to ask a police force in another country to arrest someone.
