Abortion
The deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks.

Viability
The ability to live, especially under certain conditions.

Embryo
A human or animal in the early stages of development before it is born, hatched, etc.

Pressure group
A group that tries to influence public policy in the interest of a particular cause.

Pro-Choice
Advocating the legal right of a woman to choose whether or not she will have an abortion.

Abortion on demand
The absence of restrictive legal statutes giving a woman the right to terminate a pregnancy at her request.

Necessary evil
An unfavorable thing (an evil) that someone believes must be done or accepted because it is necessary to achieve a better outcome.

Quality of life
The standard of health, comfort, and happiness experienced by an individual or group.

Miscarriage
Miscarriage, also known as spontaneous abortion and pregnancy loss, is the natural death of an embryo or foetus before it is able to survive independently.

Foetus (also fetus)
An unborn or unhatched offspring of a mammal, in particular an unborn human more than eight weeks after conception.

Conception
The action of conceiving a child or of one being conceived.

Pro-Life
Being opposed to the belief that a pregnant woman should have the freedom to choose an abortion if she does not want to have a baby.

SPUC
Society for the Protection of Unborn Children. This is a pro-life advocacy organisation in the UK which opposes abortion.

Sanctity of life
Because people are made in God’s image, human life has an inherently sacred attribute that should be protected and respected at all times.

Doctrine of double effect
If doing something morally good has a morally bad side effect it's ethically okay to do it providing the bad side-effect wasn't intended.

Ectopic pregnancy
A pregnancy in which the foetus develops outside the uterus, typically in a fallopian tube.
