the idea that punishments should make criminals pay for what they have done wrong
this give society and the victims of crime a feeling of justice

revenge - getting back at someone for what they have done
restoration- making the offender pay back what's been done. in someway restoring things to right

Is an eye for an eye valid? retribution is not valid in the 21st century
doesn't it make the person who carries out/decides to carry out the punishment just as bad as the defender themselves?

This doesn't mean that Liberal Christians should accept anything and avoid seeing justice being done but it does mean that they should condemn the wrong done but love the wrong doer at the same time- meet hate with love and show forgiveness.
