In The Thing we can see all the cast is male and they try to be more alpha male than the other, conforming to stereotypes. In Cloverfield stereotypes are challenged.

In The Thing, Childs and Nauls are treated differently because of the colour of their skin, no respect. In Cloverfield Lily is half-cast but nothing is ever mentioned.

That everyone can reach their fullet staur. In Cloverfield Rob realises his first dream isn't his true dream - Beth is. In The Thing MacReady realises that he achieves friendship a dream he has wanted since the war.

How these events are represented in the films with the monsters. It realtes to evens of the past.

Patriot Act
That the government could go through anyone's personal things e.g emails if they believed they were a terrorist, even if they had no proof. They rushed the Act thugh and never thought about it logically because 9/11 had just happened.
