Clues

  • G.E.Moore and W.D.Ross came up with this theory. We have an intuitive sense of right and wrong, "good is just good". We cannot define it but we all intuitively know it. (12)
  • Idea that moral language is just expressing the person's opinion. A.J.Ayer explained this as the 'Hurrah-Boo' theory. Charles Stevenson agreed with this and explained how when stating something we are wanting the reciever to agree with us. (9)
  • Moral concepts are real, can be found through natural world etc. (9, 4)
  • Moral concepts/truths are just matters of opinion, cannot be tested empirically (3, 11, 4)
  • Richard Hare explains how language is like a percription, it tells us how to act according to someone's personal view. But he explained that we should follow this view as it is usually the right moral thing to do. (14)
  • We can understand morals through natural world. Once verified by nature they are objectively true. (7, 10)
