Mahabali Comprehension

Mahabali

Long long ago in the state of Kerala, there lived an Asura King called Mahabali. He was very generous, humble, caring and he would give anything to people who ask him. His modest subjects were jovial. Years passed. Mahabali turned to be the powerful kings in Kerala and the whole India. And the Devas were very anxious about his power, So they went to the lord, Vishnu. One of the Devas spoke up, " My lord, we are very anxious because of Mahabali. He thinks that he is the most powerful King in India! ". Vishnu had a plan. He disguised as Vamana, a dwarf. He came to Kerala and visited Mahabali. " Welcome. I am so happy to see you! What can I give you?". " I seek you favour to give me 3 feet of sand please, " replied Vamana. Mahabali gave him the whole Earth as his first feet, then the whole sky. But there wasn't space. " Oh humble king, where can I have my third feet?". Mahabali realised that he wasn't a boy. He was Lord Vishnu. " This will teach me a lesson not to be arrogant " thought Mahabali. He said to the Lord, " Oh Lord, your third feet is that I will live underground. Kindly, put my feet on my head. Then you will receive your third feet, ". As what Mahabali said, Vamana turned into Lord Vishnu and put his feet to Mahabali's head. Then, Mahabali went deeper and deeper until he stopped for a moment. " Your wish is fulfilled," said Mahabali, " you have your three feet of sand,". Saying this, Vishnu pressed Mahabali's head and he lived underground.

Today, people from Kerala celebrate a musical and a jovial celebrate and parade called Onam. People celebrate Onam for Mahabali visiting Kerala.
