The Dhamma
The teachings of Buddhism.

The Three Universal Marks
The three characteristics the Buddha says life has. These are Anicca, Anatta and Dukkha.

Anicca
All things are impermanent. Harming one part of creation is harming others. Everything is interdependent.

Anatta
There is no soul or permanent self. Things like race, gender and sexual orientation are temporary and not significant.

Dukkha
All life is unsatisfactory. Life is unsatisfactory because of Tanha.

Tanha
Craving something that will eventually let you down.

Karma
An impersonal law that applies to everyone. Your actions have consequences in this life and in reincarnations to come. Each person is born with a Karmic debt and wishes to store up good karma.

Metta
Loving kindness.

The Three Poisons
The three poisons are at the heart of any bad karma. Any thought, speech or action that is motivated by greed, hatred or stupidity is wrong.

Upaya Kusala
Skilful means. We can break the precepts if the intention is good.

Karuna
Compassion and empathy.

Ahimsa
Non-violence.

The Noble Eightfold Path
A way to end craving and suffering. The eight steps are right speech, right effort, right concentration, right action, right livelihood, right intention, right mindfulness and right view.

Right Speech
Don't speak harshly in any way.

Right Effort
To be determined to follow the path.

Right Concentration
To train the mind through meditation.

Right Action
To follow the five precepts.

Right Livelihood
To have a job that supports Buddhist teachings.

Right Intention
To follow the path out of love for all beings.

Right Mindfulness
To be aware of your motives.

Right View
The Dhamma.
21 of 23
The Five Precepts (positive form)
Show generosity, show loving kindness (Metta) to all living things, be honest and sincere, show respect, loyalty and responsibility and show mindfulness.
22 of 23
The Five Precepts (negative form)
Don't steal, don't take lives or be violent (Ahimsa), don't speak negatively, don't be controlled by your desires and abstain from drugs and alcohol.
