Nepal is one of the most heavily forested areas

This is due to the need for fuel wood in such remote inaccessible areas. This deforestation in a neighbouring country can cause flooding as a lack of trees prevents interception storage as well as decreasing the lag time by eliminating leaf drip.

Furthermore trees roots keep the soil together and without them more sediment is removed and placed in the river once again decreasing river discharge.

The embankments stop small floods but retain water which has flowed over them. Furthermore the embankments are often poorly constructed and fail during peak summer discharge.

Hindu religion which follows wishes of Shiva (The God which states rivers are sacred and the “givers and takers of life”). Therefore it is wrong in the Hindu religion to prevent floods.
