1 of 9
Which drug was used in the study?
Boxes labelled "5mg capsules of Astroten", which were actually placebos.
2 of 9
What was the role of "Dr Smith from the psychiatric department"?
He was really a researcher who would phone the hospital and tell the nurse to give 20mg of Astroten to a patient named Mr Jones, saying he would come to the hospital in 10 minutes to sign the authorisation.
3 of 9
Why was it wrong for a nurse to obey "Dr Smith's" orders?
The nurse was told to give the patient 20mg of Astroten, when the bottles were labelled with the maximum dose of 10mg; it's against hospital rules for nurses to accept orders over the phone.

He observed the nurse's actions, out of sight.

33, who were all uninvolved with the study.

21 out of 22.
7 of 9

31 out of 33.
8 of 9
What was the conclusion reached by the Hofling study?
The nurses believed they would not obey orders over the phone, but did so when they actually recieved the orders.
