It occurred at 3:32am. Because it was so early everyone was still asleep meaning that houses just collapsed on people.

Aftershocks triggered langslides and rockfalls causing damage to transport. The number of students at L'Aquila University has decreased. Lack of housing meant the price and rent of houses increased. Tourism decreased.
