1 of 11
What is the dihydrogenphosphate ion?
H PO
2 of 11
What is the equation for the reaction between Sodium Fluoride and con phosphoric acid?
NaF + H PO --> NaH PO + HF
3 of 11
Why would chlorine or ozone be added to drinking water?
To kill microorganisms.
4 of 11
What is the formula for ozone?
O
5 of 11
How is ozone generated?
By passing a high voltage electric discharge through oxygen (or using UV light)
6 of 11
How does ozone kill microorganisms?
It oxidises them.
7 of 11
What are the advantages of using chlorine to kill microorganisms?
Cheaper than ozone; More soluble in water than ozone; Provides residual protection as it is still present in water when it reaches the consumer.
8 of 11
What are the disadvantages of using chlorine to kill microorganisms?
Cannot kill some microorganisms; Leaves chemicals in water; Unpleasant taste; Toxic to humans at high quantities.
9 of 11
What are the advantages of using ozone to kill microorganisms?
Kills more types of microorgansims; Breakdown product is oxygen; No residual chemicals in the water; Removes metal and organic particles from water; No unpleasant taste.
10 of 11
What are the disadvantages of using ozone to kill microorganisms
More expensive than chlorine; Does not provide residual protection against microorganisms; Less soluble in water than chlorine so requires sepcial mixing techniques.
