What was Hiter's life like before he entered politics?
He was born in Brannau (Austria) and was abused by his father. At 18 he drpped out of school and moved to Vienna but failed to get into Vienna Art academy so he lived as a tramp. He joined the German army in 1913 and served in WW1 as a runner.

After WW1 he worked as a spy and saw the German Worker's Party. he jooined the party and soon started speaking publically

When did Hitler start to gain power?
He became leader of the German Worker's Party in 1921, he changed it's name to the German Worker's National Socialist Party (Nazis) and adopted the swastika as it's emblem.

What is the SA?
SA means Sturmabteilung, they were known as brown shirts or storm troopers and were ex-soldiers lead y Ernst Rohm.

What was the Munich Putsch?
On the 8th November 1923, Hitler demonstrated an armed takeover of Munich. He pointed a gun at Gustav von Kahr (Bavaran Nationalist leader) and got him to help with the putsch. Kahr changed his mind and told the authorities.

What were the consequences of the Munich Putsch?
Hitler was sentenced to 5 years but served 9 months. He wrote Mein Kampf and gained national publicity for the Nazis.

What were the main ideas illustrated in Mein Kamf?
The Fuhrer principle - Germany must have one leader, social Darwinism - the idea or a master race and sub-humans, anti-semitism - hatred of Jews, Communism - needed to be destroyed, Lebensraum - Germany must expand, Treaty

What were the economic issues of the Weimar Republic?
Reparations were set at £6.6 billion to be repaid at £100 million a year. They couldn't afford this so they printed more money to pay. This made the money worthless so caused hyperinflation. Stresemann was able to borrow money from America to pay.
