What is the definition of a reversible reaction?
A reversible reaction is one that can go in either direction depending on the conditions.
1 of 16
What is the definition of dynamic equilibria?
Dynamic equilibria is when the forward and reverse reactions occur at the same rate.
2 of 16
What are the two types of equilibria?
Static and dynamic
3 of 16
What happens when copper(II) sulfate crystals are added to water?
The crystals dissolve and solution turns blue. More added, deeper the blue colour. When no more dissolves and copper(II) sulfate crystals remain in the solution, it's become saturated, intensity of blue colour remains constnat
4 of 16
What is still happening to the copper(II) and how is it proved?
It's still dissolving, proved by using radioactive tracers.
5 of 16
What are macroscopic properties?
When at equilibrium there's no observable change, the properties that we can see or measure remain constant.
6 of 16
What is the definition of position of equilibrium?
The proportion of products to reactants in an equilibrium mixture
7 of 16
What is the definition of Le Chatelier's principle?
It states that if a system at equilibrium is subjected to a change, the equilibrium tends to shift so as to minimise the effect of change.
8 of 16
What happens if we change the conditions of a chemical reaction in equilibrium?
The equilibrium is also changed.
9 of 16
What effect will concentration change have on equilibrium?
If the product on the left is added the equilibrium will move to the right, if the product on the right is added more of the equilibrium will move to the left.
10 of 16
What effect will pressure change have on equilibrium?
The position of equilibrium will move to the right when pressure is increased, increasing the yield of the product on the right. Reducing the pressure shifts equilibrium to the left.
11 of 16
What is the equilibrium constant?
Kc, the subscript c indicates that it's a ratio of concentrations
12 of 16
What direction is exothermic and endothermic?
Forward direction is exothermic, backward direction is endothermic and vice versa.
13 of 16
What's the equations for equilibrium?
aA + bB ⇌ cC + dD Kc = [C]^c [D]^d / [A]^a [B] ^b
14 of 16
What does a large volume of Kc show?
There's more products than reactants in the equilibrium mixture, the position of equilibrium lies to the right.
15 of 16
What does a value less of 1 for Kc show?
That there's more reactants than products in the equilibrium mixture, the position of equilibrium lies to the left.
