British society was firmly divided along class lines. Those with the most money had the most power.

Only men who owned property, women weren't allowed to vote at all. Women's life were controlled by their families and husbands.

The leadership given by the upper class during the war.

What caused World War one?
There was a dangerous level of tension between the big European countries, which resulted in WW1. This was a terrible conflict which cost millions of lives.

Yes.

1928 - this meant power was shared out more evenly.

Conflicts between who were still happening in 1945? Give an example.
Business owners and workers, e.g. the 1926 general strike, which saw many important industries grind to a halt.

Describe he event that happened from 1930. What did this lead to?
There was a global economic slump - known as the depression which hit many British industries. There was a big increase in unemployment and many workers faced terrible poverty.

Describe what happened when the labour party won the 1945 general election by a landslide.
They focused on improving the welfare system to loo after the poorest in society.

When was the NHS started? by who?
1948 - by the labour party.

What did the world wars make people question? What did this lead to becoming more popular?
Britain's social structure. Socialism and other left wing ideas, which call for more equal sharing out of wealth and power, became more popular.

Private ownership and wealth.

Work out how to make a better society.
