What was 'Red Bavaria'?
A short-lived unrecognised socialist state used to enact communist reforms by the KPD.

Not really - it was put down easily, and the state was already facing food shortages and criticism. BUT it involved a lot of people.

What was the 'Ruhr Revolution'?
It was a left-wing workers' revolt in the Ruhr region, acting in support of the general strike (after the Kapp Putsch). It resulted in mass executions, and breached one of the TofV's demands.

Was the 'Ruhr Revolution' a threat?
Yes - it involved millions of workers and WW1 veterans who were armed. Most of the uprisings were put down easily, but it resulted in French occupation of some towns.

It was a short-lived insurrection in Hamburg. It was between the KPD and SPD, with nationwide strikes.

Was the 'German October' a threat?
Yes - it involved quite a lot of people and whilst it was put down easily, it contributed to the deteriorating relationship between the SPD and KPD. It aimed at getting rid of the republic, and had weapons.

To destroy the republican regime and seize power (like Mussolini)

What happened in the Munich Putsch?
Hitler and the Nazis took control of a beer hall and declared 'National Revolution'. Seekt and the army resisted them. When they marched on Munich they were easily put down by the Bavarian Police.

Why did the Munich Putsch fail?
1. Hitler grossly overestimated the extent of public support. 2. Lack of real planning. 3. Relied too heavily on support from Ludendorff. 4. Others abandoned the plan. 5. They had no real military backing

What were the consequences of the Munich Putsch?
They were arrested, NSDAP were banned, Hitler turned the trial into a propaganda success e.g. Mein Kampf

Who led the Kapp Putsch?
Wolfgang Kapp and General Luttwitz

What was the Kapp Putsch's aim?
To form a new government and counteract the disbanding of two army brigades

What happened in the Kapp Putsch?
12,000 marched on Berlin unopposed and seized buildings. They installed a new government and the German army refused to get involved. SPD called for a general strike so they no longer had authority.

Why did the Kapp Putsch fail?
The SPD was able to call fo a general strike, meaning the Kapp Putsch did not have authority, making them flee the city.

What were the consequences of the Kapp Putsch?
It demonstrated the army's unreliabilty and reforms were introduced to discipline them, Freikorps were also decreased. However, Kapp died awaiting trial and only 1/705 prosecuted were found guilty.

Right - they had support from the judiciary and army (but not as widely supported)
